A WARRIOR.

Oh this pain

What is the gain?

It’s driving me insane

I’m not the same

I want to be fine

I want to dine

I want to have fun

Without having to burn

I want to fly high

But instead I cry

I want to feel alive

And I will live

Because I am a fighter

And I don’t give up

I am a warrior

I’ll keep fighting.

A GIRL

She’s just a girl

who lives in fear

because some people don’t care

but they always dare

to scare and scar

a little girl

who has done nothing wrong

other than being born

into a world

where most people don’t care.

EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING

Kate was what most people will refer to as ‘popular’. She had a lot of friends, knew a lot of people and it seemed everyone knew her too. She was a very cheerful girl and had this irresistible auora around her that it was almost impossible to not fall in love with her at your first sight. She was always there when you needed her and made it her duty to ensure that every one around her was always happy and that gave her joy.

Unknown to the rest of the world, her happiness was only outward as deep inside, she felt so sad and thought that no one will be able to understand how she felt so there was no need speaking to anyone. She decided to use the camouflage of happiness to distract everyone from her own pain as she did not like people getting worried about her.

Kate had series of failed relationships and just when she thought her knight in shinning armour had finally come, he ended up calling off their engagement few months to their wedding for no reasonable reason and this shattered her completely. This was the beginning of all her problems as she gave up on love and decided to move on with her life. Although everyone knew what had happened to her, but no one suspected anything serious because she appeared happy and cheerful and they all assumed she had gotten over it.

Little by little, Kate started losing interest in all the things she loved doing, she almost became a shadow of herself. When her family and friends asked what was going on with her, she told them she was fine and that she was just a bit overwhemed by work and some other things that they shouldn’t bother about her. She dealt with all these alone for about two years and she decided to finally open up and talk to a trusted friend named Dayo. She told him all about it and he was very surprised as he didn’t even suspect that she had been going through all these. He told her that she needed help and that her mental health was very important and he was going to help her get the necessary help she needed. He referred her to his friend Tope who was the leader of a Mental Health Group. Kate was grateful but was a bit skeptical because she wasn’t used to opening up to people and it was going to be a very tough one for her. She decided to give it a shot and see how it goes with little or no hope that Tope or the Group could help her get better.

Tope and Kate got talking and they became very good friends. Kate was surprised at how relieved she felt after every conversation she had with her. She never expected that talking could do such magic. After a few months, Tope handed her over to a trained psychologist, Damian. She and Damian got talking and she kept opening up to him more and more until there was almost nothing he didn’t know about her. He monitored her growth and helped her become a stronger and better person. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months and Kate’s improvement was impressiven and Tope commended Damian’s efforts as she could see the improvement in Kate’s life.

Along the line, Damian and Kate fell in love with each other and the feelings were so strong that Damian had to tell Tope to assign another therapist to her as he couldn’t be in a relationship with his client/patient and he really loved Kate as was willing to do anything to ensure that they are together. Tope was confused and didn’t understand what was happening. She spoke to Kate about it and Kate confirmed what Damian said. She explained to Tope that the feelings were mutual and they were sure. Tope, though a bit reluctant assigned someone else to Kate. Kate and Damian started dating and they were very happy together. About a year later, Damian proposed to Kate and she accepted. Kate was very happy and glad she opened up to Dayo and took his advice and wondered what could have become of her life if she hadn’t.

They got married a few months later and that was the beginning of their happily ever after.

JUST RHYMES

I don’t know how I feel. It’s something I can’t explain. It’s a combination of emotions which are in motion, paying no attention but throwing caution without precaution but with a repercussion that will bring about an action or inaction depending on the reaction.

Death

I wake up one morning

I see a new day

That some wished to see but couldn’t

Because they were taken by death

It is so sad to sleep at night

And not wake to see the light

But who are we to question God?

We will go

When God says

We should go.

Birth

A new one is born

into the world

a world full of pain

a world full of gain

a beautiful world

full of chances and choices

an innocent child

is brought to life

to join in the fight

the fight of peace, joy and love,

faith, hope and oneness

that is the beauty of birth.

 

 

 

CANCER

On a very rainy day, a beautiful teenage girl named Diane sat at her window thinking about what her future would be like. She looked forward to having a very handsome and rich husband, very beautiful kids, a good job, a beautiful shape and above all a happy home. As she thought about all these, her mum walked in and noticed how lost in thoughts she was, she called her many times but she didn’t hear.It was until she tapped her then Diane became conscious of her environment. Her mum asked her if she would like to share her thoughts with her but she said she wasn’t thinking about anything that she was only admiring the trees and how they swirled in the rain. Her mum knew there was something wrong but since she didn’t want to share she decided to let her be and she left the room.

The following day was a school day. Diane attended University of Lagos. Her boyfriends name was Dave and he was her course mate. When she got to school she noticed that Dave wasn’t at school. She was very worried and through out that day she thought about what could have kept him from school knowing that he was the kind of student who would not miss school unless it was unavoidable She made up her mind that after school that day she was going to stop by at his house and find out what happened.
After school she did as she had planned and stopped by at his house. When she got to the door, she pressed the door bell and not long after, the maid came to answer. She told the maid her reason for coming and the maid told her that Dave couldn’t see any body at the moment. Her heart skipped and a lot of thoughts crossed her mind. She pleaded with the maid to let her see Dave but the maid stood her grounds. Diane left the house in tears. Unknown to her, Dave had seen her when she came. When she got home she went to her room and had a bath then charged her mobile phone because it had gone off due to a flat battery. A message came in as the phone came on. It read;

MY SWEETHEART, I KNOW U WERE WORRIED WHEN U DID NOT SEE ME AT SCHOOL AND THAT WAS WHY U HAD 2 COME AND CHECK ON ME IN MY HOUSE. I APPRECIATE IT BUT I WONT BE IN SCHOOL FOR A VERY LONG TIME OR FOREVER. I AM SURE U MUST BE WONDERING WHAT I MEAN. THE SUMMARY OF THE STORY IS THAT I HAVE CANCER AND THE DOCTORS HAVE GIVEN ME ONLY THREE MONTHS TO LIVE. I LOVE U SO MUCH AND I KNOW THIS HURTS U DEEPLY BUT THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO THE SITUATION AT HAND.JUST KNOW THAT ANY WHERE I GO I WILL ALWAYS LOVE U.
Her hands shook as she read the message, shivers ran down her spine. She kept on wondering if this was how their three-year relationship was going to end. She was too shocked for words. She picked up her phone and gave Dave a call. Dave picked up and she was in tears as she spoke to him. She pleaded with him to let her see hin and he agreed. He told her that she could come the following day. She thanked him and they exchanged pleasantries before she hung up. She continued to think about every thing that had happened that day and she then lay on her bed and cried to sleep without having any dinner.
The following day, she went to his house as planned. When she got there she flashed Dave and he came to open the door for her. When she saw him she was moved to tears as they exchanged pleasantries. He then led her inside the house, asked her what he could offer her but she said she was okay and they went to the room ; when they got to the room, she asked him how the cancer came about and he explained to her saying that he had been feeling weak for some time and fainting occasionally he told his mum and then they booked an appointment with the doctor. When they met with the doctor, some tests were carried out and he was diagnosed with cancer. he couldn’t believe his ears and since that day he has not been himself.
After he explained to her,she told him that all will be well and that he should not give up that God still has a plan for him. After that they made out then she left for her house.
When she got home, she knelt down and prayed to God to spare the life of her boyfriend before she had her dinner, had her bath and went to bed.
Their first semester exams were fast approaching so Diane could not spend as much time as she wanted to spend with Dave though she called him frequently and they chatted daily.

It was finally the week of exam and Diana had prepared for it and told Dave that he would see less of her until after her final paper that week. The week ran fast and she was done with her exams. She was so happy because she would have enough time to spend with her boyfriend. When she got home that day, she ate had her bath and then dialed Dave many times but he did not pick. She was so worried and the next day, she went to his house. She met the maid who told her that Dave was rushed to the hospital the night before. She asked the maid the name of the hospital and she told her. Diane went to the hospital as fast as she could. When she got there, she met his mother in the waiting room and asked her what had happened to Dave and she told her that Dave slumped and was rushed to the hospital that he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.). Diane was afraid and prayed to God. A few hours later, the doctor came out and announced that Dave gave up the ghost some minutes ago. Dave’s mother fell to the ground and started weeping uncontrollably while Diane in tears also tried comforting her. Later on in the day, Dave’s dad came to take his wife home and dropped Diane off at her house.
Diane was still in shock and could not believe that Dave was no more. She wished she had seen him at least for the last time before he died. She was so sad that she cried for hours after which she slept.
A few weeks later, the burial came. A few of Dave’s friends and course mates, family and well wishers were present and then the Priest gave the final rites before Dave was laid down to rest. As the coffin was lowered to the ground, Diane wept while some of her friends comforted her. They all left the grave yard sorrowfully.
When Diane went home she decided to get over Dave no matter how hard it will be and focus on her academics and the future she had once thought of.
